More about this scene

The large weather-boarded buildings on the left are the silk mills of Warner & Sons, who had taken over the business of Walters & Co in 1894. Daniel Walters came to the town in 1822, and these mills were built in 1856. Behind these is another range of buildings constructed in 1869. Both firms produced silk products for the royal family, and Warners have woven velvet for every coronation since that of Edward VII.

Cordingley Braintree County High School (Bchs)
I was a pupil at BCHS from 1958-63 and have painful memories of him, albeit possibly unfairly. During a 3rd year biology lesson our female teacher regaled us of pranks she had undertaken at Uni which included removing brass plaques off buildings. Two of us decided to help her by removing 2 small brass plaques on the main building so when lessons ended I was to be be found kneeling down ...see more

Baughans Butchers
Hi there I used to work for Baughans at their manufacturing plant in Braintree and also in their shops in the area. If anybody remembers me or even worked for Baughans it would be nice to chat. I now live in Norwich.

Maureen Mc Carthy
Maureen was 10 in 1947. She was accused by Cordingley of ‘Disturbing the boys in the sixth form’ We’re you disturbed? We married in 1982. She died of Alzheimer’s on March 15 2020. I have her school badge. Brendan McNamara

My Younger Days.
I lived in 77 Challis Lane in the late forties to 1955. At age nine our family moved to Australia. My Father Frank Kirrage, worked on the Buses, then managed the Cafeteria, My Mother, Charlotte worked at the Hospital.My name is Tony Kirrage and would be great to hear from anyone who remembers us.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
