More about this scene
William Cobbett came to Botley in 1805 and purchased the Fairthorns Estate, comprising 300 acres. In later life he became bankrupt, and the land was sold. In 1854, Fairthorne Manor was built. After belonging to various owners it was purchased by the YMCA, and has become an international training centre with many and varied courses available for young people of all ages and nationalities.
