More about this scene
The lych gate was built in 1905 and paid for by Edward Huth in memory of his parents, who moved to Wykehurst House in the 1860s. A new house designed by Edward Barry (son of Charles Barry, architect of the Houses of Parliament) was built in 1874. The lych gate was damaged by a falling yew during the 1987 storm.
