More about this scene
Blacko Tower (just visible on the top of the hill), marking the boundary of Pendle Forest, was built by Jonathan Stansfield in 1891. Jonathan 'wearied in well doing', and a troop of Boy Scouts from Colne eventually finished the structure. It is thought to be on the site of Malkin Tower, where Mother Demdike and her witch companions hid before capture. Other towers in the area are Grant's Tower, Peel Tower, Darwen Tower and Hampsfell, mainly popular tributes to Queen Victoria.
