The Swimming Pool
A Memory of Ashford.
I lived in ferndale rd ,next to the swimming pool from 1942 to 1959 ,went to Clarendon rd , woodthorpe rd and stanwell rd school. It was great living across the road from the park and the stream, trees to climb, fish ,tadpoles and newts to catch and take home only to be told to tip them back into the stream! Although living along side the pool I never learnt to swim and to this day I'm still scared of water although I had five sisters that swam very well and spent hours swimming there and in the Thames in Staines and lalehem . I went to the park where the pool was last Sunday 6/9/20 and sat on the little bridge crossing the stream and spoke to a lot of local dog walkers and was amazed to find that not one person had any idea that there had ever been a swimming pool along side the stream !!! Another thing that surprised me was I didn't see any fish at all only a very large rat taking a swim. It's brilliant to see these pictures on this site ,thank goodness there were some people that were able to take pictures like these so long ago !!! Thanks for the memories , pat george ( nee Goddard) 65 Ferndale rd .ashford.
