Looking across the bowling green, we can see the Publix Cinema. It is showing 'Jungle Jim' starring Johnny Weissmuller, ex-Tarzan, and features the yet-to-be-famous Superman actor, George Reeves. 'Jungle Jim' was one of the worst of the 'Jungle' film genre - one reviewer wrote that 'Jungle Jim' had 'no particular personality or background'. The Publix struggled on for a few more years, but it finally succumbed and closed when the Astoria opened in the new town. The war memorial was dedicated in 1921. Shortly afterwards, the open bowling green was fenced off.

Happy Memories Growing Up In Stevenage In The 60's
I started my life in Stevenage at the age of 10 when we moved from London and my dad was given a house in Holly Leys, Longmeadow. I went to the Roebuck Junior School and I remember the long walk to school down Broadwater Crescent. After passing my 11+ I went to the new Stevenage Girls' Grammar School which was being built. Stevenage Relatives
My father was Noah Clements his sister's husband George Graham had a furniture store on Main street in Stevenage mum and I used to visit when going to Aston during school holidays to visit her sister Edith Wright Graham's had two daughters, wonder what has happened to them since last saw them around 1955 my email is primcroteau@aol.com

George Graham had a furniture shop on Main street Stevenage had two daughters, his wife was a Clements,my dad was Noah Clements her brother, we visited in summer when staying in Aston during school holidays at auntie Edith Wright

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
