More about this scene
The Georgian-style council offices, now North Herts District Council's housing department, were built for the Urban District Council in 1935 to a design by Bennet & Bidwell, architects of many of the buildings in the town. In the background is the Broadway cinema at the junction of Gernon Road and Eastcheap. It opened on 26 August 1936, and the first film to be shown was 'Follow the Fleet' starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
